Dunkeld and Birnam

On the banks of the River Tay, Dunkeld is known as “the gateway to the highlands.” One of the most complete 18^th Century towns in Scotland, the brightly coloured “little houses” have been restored by the National Trust for Scotland. The town is home to Dunkeld Cathedral, completed in 1501 and reputed to have housed the bones of St Columba. Birnam, the neighbouring village, is home to the Birnam Oak, a 600-year-old oak tree, one of the oldest in Scotland.
