We’re reducing our plastic usage

We’re reducing our plastic usage

We have been looking at ways to make our service more sustainable and we are constantly working with our partners to help reduce our carbon footprint.

Since 2015 we have partnered with ARRAN Sense of Scotland to supply our guests with bath and shower gels, shampoo, conditioner, handwashes and body lotions.

Since the start of October all our fleet has been fitted with eco-friendly refillable dispensers to replace the single use plastics in our Caledonian Double and Club rooms, reducing virgin plastic use by 81% and liquid waste by use to 75%.

In total we will remove close to 400,000 single use plastic bottles from our fleet per year.

Steven Marshall, Head of Sales and Marketing for Caledonian Sleeper, said:

“We have shifted to a more sustainable proposition while maintaining the high-quality products and experience that Caledonian Sleeper passengers have come to expect. ARRAN Sense of Scotland’s signature, After the Rain fragrance will be available in all of the new Caledonian Sleeper ARRAN branded refill dispensers.”

The move is part of ARRAN Sense of Scotland’s strategy to improve its environmental impact. All the company’s bottles are now made of 100% PCR (post-consumer recycled plastic) with the company eliminating virgin plastic from its supply chain by the end of 2022.

Kevin Meechan, CEO at ARRAN Sense of Scotland, said:

“We are still on our journey towards sustainability and the change in public perception in regard to our eco-friendly measures has been positive for our company. It has made us evaluate what we could improve on and also allow us to see all the good we have already done in this sphere. We are really excited to continue this journey towards a greener future.”
