Fort William

Home to many a lively ceilidh – where the celebrated local malt is the toast of the guests – Fort William is an idyllic escape from the rat race.

Fort William

Fort William, the outdoor capital of the UK Fort William sits amongst some of the most spectacular scenery in the world, between Loch Linnhe and the dramatic lines carved out by the Nevis Range.

As the UK’s Outdoor Capital, it offers unrivalled skiing, walking and sporting opportunities for all the family. For those who enjoy an extreme challenge, Ben Nevis provides an unforgettable climb, with the famous peak as challenging in the summer as it is when snow and ice caps it in the winter.

Nearby, Aonach Mòr is one of the best ski-slopes in Europe, with gondolas providing easy access to the top, while in the summer a custom designed track makes it one of the best downhill mountain bike challenges in the world. Which is just as well, as every year Fort William is host of the Mountain Bike World Cup, with competitors taking on the wilds of the surroundings as well as the town itself in the famously arduous race.

Watersports enthusiasts flock to Fort William every year too, not just for the sailing but for the white water and canoeing in the Atlantic as well as the surrounding rivers.

Home to many a lively ceilidh too – where the celebrated local malt is the toast of the guests – it is an idyllic escape from the rat race.
