Celebrate National Tea Day in Scotland with Caledonian Sleeper

With Brits estimated to drink a whopping 165 million cups of tea a day, it’s no wonder we have an entire month dedicated to the popular hot drink.

To celebrate National Tea Day (21 April), Caledonian Sleeper has provided a list of its top afternoon tea experiences that can be enjoyed across Scotland. Choose from traditional, themed or indulgent afternoon teas to infuse your tea adventure.

Start your tea journey on board Caledonian Sleeper were a range of teas can be sampled in the lounge car including traditional breakfast tea, camomile, green tea and peppermint.

Children’s afternoon tea at The Balmoral

Afternoon tea needn’t be exclusive to grownups thanks to luxury Edinburgh hotel, The Balmoral.

Located at 1 Princes Street in the city centre, the hotel has introduced a new children’s afternoon tea which can be enjoyed by the youngest of VIPs. Executive Pastry Chef, Ross Sneddon, has crafted a menu of sweet and savoury treats to be devoured under the impressive setting of the sparkling glass dome in the Palm Court.

This experience costs £25 per person and is available from noon to 5pm daily. 

Almondine in Aberdeen

Specialising in handmade macarons, Almondine’s French delicacies will transport your taste buds to a Parisian dream.

This family run patisserie located on Aberdeen’s Thistle Street has a small but experienced team, which appeared on popular TV show Bake Off Créme de la Créme.

Indulge in a French-themed afternoon tea with a selection of freshly cut sandwiches, scones and patisserie miniatures.

Costing £24 per person, a glass of bubbles can be added for an additional fee. Or try one of Almondine’s speciality flowering teas. 

Tea and tennis at Cromlix

Visit the tranquil surroundings of Cromlix near Dunblane to enjoy afternoon tea followed by a game of tennis on the onsite courts.

Choose your blend of tealeaves from Cromlix’s very own tea menu and relish the chef's freshly made scones, savoury finger sandwiches and selection of sweet delicatessens. Following the treat make the most of the various activities on offer at the hotel such as archery or take a tennis lesson with the experienced DAR Tennis.

Full afternoon tea costs £22.50 per person. 

Cup Tea Lounge Glasgow

Enjoy a classic afternoon tea on vintage china, immersed in spectacular Victorian décor at Cup Tea Lounge.

Located in the vibrant area of Renfield Street in Glasgow, Cup Tea Lounge offers a delicious afternoon tea including an array of savoury bites, warm scones and a selection of sweet treats.

Afternoon tea is served in the main restaurant, featuring high ceilings and vintage tiling. Served from 12pm until 4pm seven days a week, gluten free, vegan and children’s options are also available.
