New Sweet Treats for Caledonian Sleeper Guests

Caledonian Sleeper is set to offer sweet-toothed travellers a morning treat thanks to a new partnership with a Highland bakery.
Bad Girl Bakery, located in the village of Muir of Ord, will be supplying the overnight service with freshly baked breakfast muffins as part of Caledonian Sleeper’s existing catering offering.

Guests will be able to enjoy carrot and orange breakfast muffins in the comfort of their room or in the on board lounge car along with a choice of other hearty meals such as creamy Highland porridge or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs which have also been developed with local producers.

Speaking of the new partnership, Ryan Flaherty, Serco’s Guest Experience Director at Caledonian Sleeper, said: “We are very excited to be working with Bad Girl Bakery and bringing new products on board for our guests to enjoy.

“We are looking forward to growing this relationship and working with the bakery to develop new recipes to showcase the range of fresh products available. The team at the bakery works hard to deliver the very best cakes and I’m sure these will be enjoyed by many of our guests.

“The contract is one of several partnerships that Caledonian Sleeper has with local suppliers as we strive to highlight the best of Scotland’s food and drink offering.”

Launched in 2014, Bad Girl Bakery has quickly grown into an award-winning business which boasts a café and cake shop hiring more than 12 local people. The contract with Caledonian Sleeper has facilitated plans to open an additional premise offering further job and commercial opportunities.

Jeni Hardie, who owns Bad Girl Bakery with her husband, Douglas, added: “The success of the bakery has been amazing to date and with the new contract with Caledonian Sleeper we are very excited for the future of the business.

“Working with such an iconic company as Caledonian Sleeper is excellent for not only orders and new business but will also help to raise our profile as a Scottish supplier. We couldn’t have done this without the support from the company and The Highland Council’s Highland Opportunity who we have worked closely with over the past few years.

“We look forward to working with Caledonian Sleeper to bring new products on board for guests to enjoy.”

Bad Girl Bakery joins a network of Scottish suppliers including RSF Scotland, Highland Cookhouse, Cobbs and Caorunn Gin who currently partner with Caledonian Sleeper which is operated by leading service company Serco.

Caledonian Sleeper’s commitment to using quality Scottish produce and ingredients has earned the company VisitScotland’s Taste Our Best award and supports Serco’s intention to double its procurement spending from Scottish companies. This is substantially increasing the number of Scottish Small and Medium size Enterprises (SMEs) with which the company does business.
