Get Out of the Office…And Enjoy a Winter City Break in Scotland

This time of year is always magical. With the spirit of Christmas in the air, twinkling lights above and plenty of opportunity to overindulge, there’s lots to look forward to. But, with the end of the year nearing many are also thinking about how to use up and make the most of those last few remaining days of annual leave.

Here to help, we’ve created a list of our top city breaks to enjoy this December in Scotland. Whether you’re looking to discover Dundee’s new V&A museum or experience Glasgow’s foodie scene, a last minute trip north of the border is the best way to make the most of those precious days out of the office.

Discover Dundee’s V&A

The opening of Dundee’s new V&A – Scotland’s first design museum – was a key date in the 2018 calendar. With the overwhelming crowds gradually calming, now is the best time to visit this landmark venue in the heart of the city.

Located just a short walk from Dundee Railway Station, the museum boasts a series of exhibitions, commissions, workshops and events throughout December providing plenty of cultural entertainment. Head to the Ocean Liners: Speed and Style exhibition for a glimpse of how ocean liners became one of the most powerful and admired symbols of 20th century modernity, or join the Winter Nights series every Friday ahead of Christmas.

Dine Out in Glasgow

Filled with bustling restaurants and quirky bars, Glasgow is one of the best places in the country to enjoy great food and drink.

Grand venues such as Anchor Line, located between Glasgow Queen Street Station and Glasgow Central Station, offer the perfect atmosphere for a festive meal due to extravagant decorations and Christmas menus, while year-round favourites Mother India, Halloumi Glasgow and The Hanoi Bike Shop provide a fusion of global fare.

Snuggle Up in Edinburgh

In the winter months Scotland’s capital is transformed into a festive wonderland thanks to a series of street decorations and traditional markets scattered across the city.

Curling up in one of Edinburgh’s several bars and cafes is a great way to watch the world go by or take a break from Christmas shopping. Head to The Register Club close to St Andrew’s Square for an eclectic mix of cocktails or the celebrated Palm Court within The Balmoral hotel for a luxurious festive afternoon tea.
