London’s popular Kids Week promotion is back for another year offering free access to the city’s top theatrical performances throughout August.
Until the end of the month, youngsters under the age of 16 years can enjoy a variety of shows including family favourites such as Annie, The Borrowers, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and The Wind in the Willows.
What’s more, as well as a host of shows and activities, the annual promotion also boasts a series of additional events which offer children the chance to explore the exciting world of theatre by going behind the scenes at some of London’s most famous entertainment locations.
In celebration, Caledonian Sleeper has picked out its favourite shows from across the city to help Scottish families enjoy the finest performances.
Board Caledonian Sleeper in Scotland and enjoy a relaxing meal in the service’s lounge car, where children under 12 years eat for free when eating with an adult, before settling down in a room and awakening the next morning ready to start your London theatre adventure.
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, Cadogan Hall
Recommended for children under five years old, the performance of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt at Cadogan Hall is adapted from Michael Rosen’s award-winning book.
Full of lively music, catchy songs, interactive scenes and plenty of hands-on adventure, this fun one hour show is the perfect introduction to theatre for pre-school children who will be mesmerised by imaginative illustrations and characters.
Wicked, Apollo Victoria Theatre
Hit musical Wicked has been entertaining audiences at the popular Apollo Victoria Theatre since 2006 and continues to bring magic to the West End.
The award-winning performance has been a great success wowing audiences and critics alike with the backstory, adapted from Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, of how the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good came to be the most famous witches of Oz.
Filled with flying monkeys, ruby red slippers and a wonderful wizard, this dazzling musical will capture the imaginations of both children and adults.
The Wind in the Willows, London Palladium
New to London’s West End and based on Kenneth Grahame’s much-loved classic, the musical of The Wind and the Willows is a star-studded performance full of humour, exuberant choreography and beautiful design.
Featuring Rufus Hound as Mr Toad, the comedy follows the character’s need for speed which lands him in serious trouble. With his home under threat from the notorious Chief Weasel, Toad must attempt a daring escape leading to a series of misadventures.
Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre Tour
Throughout Kids Week, children can discover Shakespeare’s iconic theatre in the heart of London.
The guided tour brings the extraordinary space to life in a 30-minute walk-through featuring colourful stories of the 1599 Globe, the reconstruction process and how the building works today.
Children will also have the chance to time travel with costume dressing, sword fighting and printing press demonstrations.
