Fairtrade Fortnight is marked on calendars across the world as a time to show support for the farmers and skilled people in developing countries who produce the range of goods we enjoy every day.

From 27th February until 12th March, an abundance of events and workshops are on offer throughout the UK and beyond as a way to promote this worthy cause and help support communities.

Scotland is a Fairtrade Nation with all six cities boasting the status. Discover a host of events and places in Scotland offering Fairtrade alternatives with Caledonian Sleeper.

Sample some of the freshest Fairtrade coffee on offer in a range of independent cafes and coffee houses. Glasgow-based, Matthew Algie is one of the leading independent coffee merchants in the UK, and has been selling coffee for over 100 years.

It’s triple certified coffee – Fairtrade Foundation, Rainforest Alliance and Organic Food Federation – and is available across Scotland, including Tinderbox in Glasgow’s west end, Jessie’s Kitchen in the fishing town of Broughty Ferry near Dundee and in the bustling Earthy cafes and farm shops dotted across Edinburgh’s city centre.

A selection of tasty treats on offer at Jessie's Kitchen

Visit local workshops and gift shops to uncover Fairtrade and artisan products, including jewellery, knitting and furniture. Explore Uta’s Joolz, a unique jewellery shop in Edinburgh with its handcrafted pieces from designers in the UK, Poland and India. You can also delve into the eclectic collection of home interiors and contemporary products at Indigo House in Dundee.

There are also plenty of pop-up shops, talks and events being held throughout the two week period. Edinburgh is hosting a Fairtrade Festival on Saturday 11th March in the city's idyllic Morningside area, with dozens of Fairtrade crafts and food and drink, as well as storytelling and face painting for children to enjoy. To discover one-off handmade items and learn more about Fairtrade, visit Aberdeen University’s pop-up trade fair, lectures and Go Bananas craft workshop from 1st until 11th March in locations across the Granite City.

Show your support to Fairtrade this fortnight and all year round with Caledonian Sleeper.
